Smart training and nutrition backed by proven science.
Using the New Leaf metabolic testing cart our athletes are able to determine more than just a lactate threshold test or a VO2max test. Rather
than establishing only one point of
reference (such as your VO2max or LT) to set-up multiple training
zones, post-test we are able to build a profile of the
athlete to identify specific limitations with regard to their goal
race distance and pacing.
The accuracy for
the testing is greater than blood-sample lactate threshold
testing which is both difficult to replicate and requires a strong
degree of interpretation (off of one point) to establish your
training parameters.
If you've been training by heart rate or have reached a plateau in your fitness it's highly recommended that you
set up a testing appointment.
With each test we are able to identify your aerobic threshold, anaerobic threshold, VO2 max,
and the relative strengths of these systems. As well we can identify the specific paces and / or wattages for each zone.
Have you been racing long course and struggling with your pacing or nutritional plan? Testing provides us the information to
be frank and put together a pacing and nutritional plan that will work on race day.
Trying to drop weight to maximize your running but not sure how
much is too much or what caloric intake will still allow you to
perform in training and on race day? We have the ability to also run
a Resting Metabolic Rate test (RMR) to determine baseline
nutritional needs that is a great complement with the bike and/or run
testing.
What the testing provides:
Your aerobic and anerobic threshold values, your peak VO2Power, pace, and heart rates associated with each threshold.

Coaching is a profession requiring both art and science. We at TriStar Athlete Coaching understand that the building blocks for an optimal performance are many and must be constructed in a proper sequence and must recognize that each individual is different. Some of these building blocks are correct technique, positive mental attitude and a proper diet. However, the cornerstone for this building is precise physiological training. That is the main reason an athlete spends so much time in the water, on the bike, on the track or the road, in the weight room or wherever training is best conducted. Ask yourself, do you know if all those miles/hours of training are paying out?

But what is appropriate physiological training? It is not volume or else those who put in the most hours/miles would be the winners. It is not intensity or else those who pushed themselves the hardest would be the winners. It is not someone's favorite workout or else everyone would be copying the magic workout or training pace. It turns out that each individual has their own way of adapting and any smart training plan must recognize this. This is a fact of life. Each has to find his or her own way to the proper balance of the energy systems and peak conditioning on the day that counts, race day.
So that you may reach your performance objectives. ( No over-training and no surprises come race day. ) Contact us today to set up an appointment to have your training levels determined by our coaching experts.
