Cliff Scherb based in New York City is a coach, cyclist, and active triathlete. Cliff developed his passion for triathlon while attending business school at Wake Forest University. “It seemed to satisfy my need to compete, not just against others, but to strive for personal bests.” Following graduation Cliff moved to Manhattan and began a career as a pharmaceutical representative; however his tri-habit was hard to kick. “I spent my days racing around the city, dogging traffic, rain or shine, seeing hundreds of doctors. It was like training for a triathlon but tough on a suit and tie.” So Cliff traded his suit for a tri top and bottom, and he hasn’t looked back.

Cliff has competed all across the USA, and internationally, gaining broad experience ranging from Olympic distance events to the Ironman. He has raced in the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii, and for the second time this year competed in the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Clearwater, Florida. Cliff is a USAT Level (I) coach, and has worked on active hydration strategies with the scientists of the Gatorade Institute. He studied the F.I.S.T bike fitting method from Dan Empfield publisher of Slowtwitch.com, and learned first hand about top performance triathlon equipment while working while working for a top retail triathlon store.

Always striving for ways to enhance his personal fitness and shorten race times, Cliff has a philosophy of continuous improvement. He is in it for the long run and his approach to coaching is simple; give the best coaching experience possible by understanding the aspirations of each individual, arming students with knowledge, and then motivating them to stretch to their full potential.

Brandon Del Campo was introduced to running at a very early age when his parents would drag him to local 5K and 10K's. It seemed that he had a natural talent towards running. Brandon developed talent and became one of the nation’s top high school distance runners (1992-1993). From there he went on to a scholarship at UCLA where he would join marathoning's silver Olympic medalist Mebrahtom Keflezighi. Although Del Campo's running in college did not lead him to the Olympic marathon, it did show that he could go toe to toe with other world class athletes.

At the age of 31, Brandon is back on a new adventure, Ironman and coaching. 2008 will mark his first year racing as a pro and hopefully will lead to another year of performance gains. Over the past two years, since he started the sport, he has trained with many of the greats like Scott Molina, Dave Scott and Gordo Byrn. Now in his third year he is coached by Byrn (even the coaches have coaches) and given up his "do it yourself" mentality. "Taking on Gordo as a coach has already proven to be the best decision I have made. He has been around me since the beginning and understands what it takes to make advances in performance."

His debut Ironman was IM CDA in June of 2006. "I knew I had some talent and I had been training like a pro with Scott Molina and Gordo since the beginning of the year. I went into that race expecting to be a top 5 amateur overall and go under 9:15. I went just over 11 hours. Ouch." Four weeks later he decided that CDA was a flop and entered the Full Vineman last minute trying to regain himself. He ended up 3rd overall with a time of 9:41 over the hilly course in Sonoma. "It was a better start."

Within his Ironman journey he has done numerous 1/2's with a PB of 4:07 at the Spirit of Racine in Wisconsin. Prior to that race he was second overall at the Lifetime Fitness Elite Amateur Championship race. "1/2's and anything below are so much easier for me. You just go as hard as you can until it's over! I call them condensed pain." But 1/2's and below are not really what Del Campo is after.

Hawaii was the ultimate goal since that was the race that got him into the sport in the first place. Qualifying at the Hawaii 70.3 he went on to his first Kona in 2007 with a time of 9:26. "Part of the fun with Ironman is that even if you have done all the training, understand the race in your head and execute the plan, it still may not happen on race day. That is where I am at with the challenge."

Brandon is currently living a duel summer life in New Zealand (Dec-April) and Boulder, CO for the rest of the year. He will be racing at Wildflower, IM CDA, Spirit of Racine 1/2 and hopefully KONA. Within the race schedule he has taken on the task of expanding his coaching. "I really do love coaching!” Brandon is excited to really start using his own experience in triathlon and showing others what is possible.

In addition to his training, (racing and coaching) he has started a fundraising team for the Matthew Shepard Foundation called E-Race Hate. "I wanted to do something with my sport that made a difference. I didn't want to just be in it to get faster." The team is looking to bring in $100,000 dollars by the Hawaii Ironman which falls one day after the 10 year anniversary of Matthew's Death.
